Paul H. Geithner

hello and welcome to my biographical website!

I work at NASA on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which is the next large space telescope and the scientific successor to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).  I came to NASA in 1991 to work on repair of the Hubble, managing the team that developed its first corrective optics (a device called "COSTAR") and subsequently overseeing other developments and upgrades to Hubble.  Before coming to NASA I was an officer in the United States Air Force, living in Los Angeles and working on the "Star Wars" program in its early days during the Reagan administration.  I’ve also worked as a vice president at a credit card bank and as a project manager at a start-up firm developing cutting-edge undersea fiber optic communications equipment and systems.  I’ve always had an interest in space, astronomy, engineering and science, so I very much enjoy my profession (that’s me in a cleanroom ‘bunny suit’ in the photo above).

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, I grew up in Fairfax County, Virginia in the Washington D.C. metro area, and now live just outside Annapolis, Maryland.  I earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech (1984) and an MBA from the University of Virginia (1991).  I have a wonderful family and life is good!  My interests include building or making things (see my Triumph Spitfire website and some photos from some home improvements) and being outside playing golf, sailing, gardening, skiing, hiking and the like.

Thanks for visiting-
